PHYSIOLOGICAL INFLUENCES ON SEX CHARACTERISTICS
This handy chart lays out some of the hormonal, physiological, and biological components that influence sex characteristics from conception up until mid-life processes, it is chock full of great information which demonstrates the many ways viewing sex as a constrictive binary does not sufficiently account for a myriad of signficant factors, another reason for challenging bio-essentialist arguments against gender!
BIMODAL MODEL OF DISTRIBUTION FOR GENDER (AND SEX)
A concise demonstration of how individuals naturally and categorically exist between the two poles of "male" vs. "female". A bimodal distribution relates to statistics in that it is a continuous probability distribution with two different modes. In other word, it is a spectrum that has clusters. In short, it’s unfortunate that federal and state-issued documents often use external genitalia to make a male/female assignment, because for many people this is both scientifically and medically an inaccurate or incomplete description.

Backstory
Beyond Binary was born from a passion to deny the rigid and misguided societal conceptions of what can and should constitute sex and gender. We got sick of the arguments touted by biological-essentialists who wield their simplistic knowledge of the body as if it warrants discrimination and injustice. We got tired of hearing over and over again that trans and nb/genderqueer identities are somehow so deviant that they defy the very laws of nature itself, when nothing could be further from the truth. Arming ourselves with science, expert opinions, compassion, and commitment towards the cause, Beyond Binary strives to see the day when these ancient, reductive categories have gone away, so we can all stand liberated and free to be whatever is authentic for you and for me.
